Naklua & Wong Amat Beach Guide

Wong Amat Beach Guide

Wong Amat is a gently curving, approximately 3km-long beach. It occupies the far northern end of the Pattaya Bay headland, but is only accessible from Naklua (usually Sois 16 or 18). Unlike Pattaya Beach or Jomtien it is free of watersports activities, though that is likely to change. You can hire a deck chair and order some food at an open-air local restaurant, but there are no vendors walking up and down selling foods, drinks or curios. And few people, except for a few locals and those staying in nearby resorts. This lack of mass tourist apparatus, gives the place a secluded, intimate charm. Naklua Beach, further north, is similarly calm. It has a long fishing pier and windsurfing equipment can be hired.

Wong Amat Beach
This intimate, gently curving 2km long beach is found tucked around a headland just to the north of Pattaya Beach. It can be reached via the small lanes (sois) that run off Naklua Road towards the coast, and is around five minutes drive from Pattaya Beach. Several lofty condominium towers suggest this place is on the up but, for now at least, it's still very languid, a place to escape the masses. Apart from a Family Mart convenience stall there are no shops (the closest are on nearby main road Naklua), only a couple of restaurants, and no nightlife to speak of. Nearby Naklua Road has its fair share of restaurants, beer bars and shops though. (Note: Unless otherwise stated, all rooms have air-conditioning, TV and hot water.)

Pattaya 24/7
By Christopher G. Moore

Inside a secluded, lush estate located on the edge of Pattaya, an eccentric Englishman's gardener is found hanged. Calvino has been hired to investigate. Calvino finds himself pulled deep in the shadows of the war against drugs, into an empire of a local warlord with the trail leading to a terrorist who has caused Code Orange alerts to flash across the screen of American intelligence. In a story packed with twists and turns, Calvino traces the links from the gardener's past to the door of men with power and influence who have everything to lose if the mystery of the gardener's death is solved.

Elephant Village

Elephant Village

The national symbol of Thailand, these amazing animals have been part of Thai culture for centuries. Demonstrations of training methods and ancient ceremonial re-enactments plus entertaining performances and wild elephant round-ups daily between 2:30 and 4:00.

Elephant rides are available 4 times daily: Price Bt 800. Longer treks including lunch: Bt 1,500.
Located Between Phanarak Park and the Siam Country Club Golf Course.

The Elephant Village was opened in 1973 as a sanctuary for former working elephants. These elephants, through reasons of injury or ill health, can no longer be used as a part of the backbone of heavy work in the jungles of Thailand. Also because of their diminishing habitat, it is now longer possible to return them to the wild.

All the above excursions can be booked by telephone:
